  5. CNES Science Survey Seminar- Three days devoted to space science

    This afternoon, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall opened the agency’s Science Survey Seminar taking place in Le Havre over the next three days. More than 300 scientists are in attendance at this five-yearly event, where astrophysicist and French science academy member Jean-Loup Puget, Chair of CNES’s Science Programmes Committee (CPS) since 1 January 2014, will be reviewing space science activities since the last seminar in La Rochelle in 2014. His successor Gilles Bergametti will be closing the seminar with the results of the survey for the 2019-2024 period.

  7. Science and space outreach- Stratospheric balloons and CNES and CNRS engineers at the Cité des sciences et de l’industrie

    As part of the Sky and Space forums being held from 2 to 4 November and the ‘An engineer, a project’ initiative, the Cité des sciences et de l’industrie, in partnership with CNES, is putting on an exhibition and a series of conferences on the theme of stratospheric balloons, a domain where CNES is a world leader. This operation seeks to bring science balloon engineering into the public eye.

    Thursday 20 September, CNES’s Science Programmes Committee (CPS) met at the agency’s Head Office in Paris. The CPS advises the CNES Board of Directors on matters relating to space science research and helps it to shape the agency’s science priorities. Kicking off the meeting, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall reviewed the agency’s activities in the fields of universe sciences and Earth-observation. He also announced that CNES’s next Space Science Survey Seminar would be held in Le Havre in October next year.

    The docking of the NG-16 resupply spacecraft with the ISS in August marked the arrival in orbit of the latest French experiments designed by CNES as part of the Alpha mission. After 152 days in space, astronaut Thomas Pesquet has already completed four spacewalks and performed a host of science experiments from CADMOS/CNES and from other space agencies like ESA and NAS. His schedule is still busy.
